Sell your cars through Mobility1

Registered Kenyan dealers list their cars on Mobility1 for free. You stay the seller and set the asking price. Mobility1 inspects the car at your yard, puts it online at your asking price, where anyone can see it and checked business buyers can reserve it, and, where offers are open, answers their offers for you. Commission is due only when a car sells, and the buyer pays it as part of the price.

Why list with Mobility1

How it works

  1. Apply. Send your company details with your registration certificate and KRA PIN certificate. Two different people at Mobility1 check your application against KRA iTax and the business registry, and we e-mail you when you can sell.
  2. Give your payout account. A business bank account or M-Pesa paybill in your company's name, never a personal number. Our staff check it against a bank letter or Safaricom's paybill confirmation, then Mobility1's owner switches it on: two different people. A changed account is checked again from the start.
  3. List a car. Enter the car as it is, your asking price, your lowest price, how many days the car is with Mobility1 only (7 to 30), and a day for the inspection. For now we list cars from 2020 or later.
  4. Inspection at your yard. Our inspector checks the documents, every panel, the tyres and the mechanics, drives the car at least 10 km and takes the photos. A failed document keeps the car off the site.
  5. The owner's yes. Our team checks the report and the photos, and Mobility1's owner gives the final yes. The car then goes online at your asking price, shown to every buyer.
  6. Offers answered for you. Where offers are open, Mobility1 answers each offer for you, one at a time and within 24 hours: we accept an offer at or above your lowest price, decline it, or make one counter-offer that is never below it. You do not see offers.
  7. Reserved. A buyer reserves at the asking price or at an accepted offer. We e-mail you the price, and My desk shows the buyer's contact.
  8. Paid and handed over. The buyer pays Mobility1's part, which is your commission, to Mobility1, and your part straight into your checked account, from their own money or through a lender. When we tell you Mobility1's part is in, hand over the car, start the NTSA transfer on eCitizen, and confirm your part and the transfer reference in My desk.

What it costs

Listing is free. When a car sells, Mobility1's commission is 2.5% of the final price, at least KES 150,000 and at most KES 500,000, plus 16% VAT. You instruct the buyer to pay it, less the 5% withholding tax you owe KRA on it, to Alf Holdings East Africa Limited (Mobility1) as part of the price. That payment counts as the buyer's payment to you and settles the commission.

Example: a car sold at KES 6,900,000.

Commission, 2.5% of the priceKES 172,500
Plus VAT, 16% of the commissionKES 27,600
Less withholding tax, 5% of the commission, which you pay KRAKES 8,625
The buyer pays Mobility1KES 191,475
The buyer, or the buyer's lender, pays youKES 6,708,525

Up to a price of KES 6,000,000 the commission is the minimum of KES 150,000; from KES 20,000,000 it is the maximum of KES 500,000. You pay the withholding tax to KRA on iTax within 5 working days after the buyer pays Mobility1's part (we tell you when it is in), and send us the certificate. We issue our eTIMS invoice to you when Mobility1's part arrives.
